My Approach to therapy

My path to becoming a therapist began with my own journey through grief, trauma, and the challenges of complex relationships. Working with a therapist who truly saw and accepted me without trying to “fix” me was transformative. It changed how I understood myself and my connections with others, and it continues to shape the kind of therapist I strive to be today.

Drawing on my own therapy experiences, I walk alongside my clients as they navigate their own challenges, offering a safe, compassionate space where you can feel seen, heard and supported. Whether you’re facing anxiety, depression, trauma, grief, low self-worth, relationship struggles, or major life transitions, I’m here to help you make sense of what’s happening and to walk next to you as you explore your story and discover what healing and growth can look like for you.

I understand how difficult it can be to ask for help, or to find the right therapist to support you or a young person in your life. My goal is to create a space where you feel genuinely seen, heard and respected.

I am an 'integrative' therapist and work in what is called a 'pluralistic' approach. In a nutshell this means I recognise that different people, require different support, at different times. There’s no single approach that fits everyone and tailoring that support means I can adapt my therapy style as your needs evolve. This is what makes integrative therapy so beneficial.

In therapy, we’ll work together to find the methods, pace and strategies that feel right for you as a unique individual. All my therapy approaches are 'talking therapies' and this serves as the foundation for everything.

Who I Help

 Supporting Adults

Adulthood comes with a wide range of pressures, from career demands, parenting, relationships, identity, health concerns, bereavement and balancing it all in today's ever changing world and expectations.

Whether you are facing a specific issue or are simply feeling overwhelmed, stuck or disconnected, therapy can provide a space to pause, reflect and receive the support you need.

I work with adults from all walks of life, creating an authentic, respectful and supportive environment where you can explore whatever you are going through.

Young Minds

Growing up can be challenging, especially in today’s world of social media, smartphones, and constant online connection. From school stress and friendship issues to family changes, identity exploration and navigating intense emotions, teens and young adults often benefit from having a safe, supportive space to make sense of their experiences.

I have meaningful experience and relevant qualifications in working with children and young people from age 11-18, offering supportive, therapy that is tailored to their stage of life. My goal is to create a space where they feel truly seen, heard and valued as the individual they are.

 Couples Therapy

Relationships are not always easy and sometimes it can be difficult to find a path forwards. Couples therapy can provide space for open dialogue, increased empathy and improved communication.

Counselling can help partners to understand each others perspectives and develop strategies to resolve conflicts and strengthen their emotional connection.

The goal is not to assign blame or offer solutions, but to empower the couple to find their own path forward by taking responsibility for their actions and improving relationship dynamics.

What type of therapy is right for me?

Talking therapy is the basis for any additional therapeutic approach and serves as the foundation to any secondary interventions that we might decide together could be helpful.  Below are some of the additional therapy styles I offer. Each of these therapeutic approaches are grounded in person-centred therapy, meaning that empathy, respect and compassion are at the core of everything I do.

Whether you need help with anxiety, emotional regulation, coping with loss or bereavement, navigating life transitions or simply wish to gain greater self-awareness, I draw from a range of evidence-based approaches to support your individual journey.

Dialectical Behaviour Therapy

Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT) is a type of psychotherapy based on Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) that helps people manage intense emotions, self destructive behaviours and relationship difficulties. It teaches individuals skills in mindful thinking, emotion regulation, distress tolerance and interpersonal effectiveness.

What DBT can help with:

  • Intense emotions
  • Impulsive behaviours
  • Self harm
  • Suicidal ideation
  • Difficult relationships
  • Anxiety

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) is a proven, evidence-based therapy that explores the link between your thoughts, emotions and behaviours. Harnessing practical, problem solving techniques, it supports you in recognising and challenging negative thought patterns, enabling you to develop healthier coping strategies and responses to help you improve your quality of life and cope better with difficult situations.

What CBT can help with:

  • Anxiety and panic attacks
  • Depression and low mood
  • Stress and burnout
  • Phobias
  • Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD)
  • Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD)
  • Negative self-talk
  • Low self-esteem

Exposure and Response Prevention

Exposure Response Prevention (ERP) is a form of therapy similar to CBT,  that helps people manage anxiety by gradually confronting their fears and then preventing their usual compulsive responses. The process involves the therapist guiding the client to gradually confront anxiety provoking triggers and resist the urge to perform rituals or compulsive behaviours, a process known as habituation, eventually reducing anxiety and fear over time.

What ERP can help with:

  • Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD)
  • Intrusive thoughts
  • Contamination fears
  • Perfectionism
  • Phobias and intense fears
  • Avoidance behaviours

 Support for Teens and Parents

Being a teenager today comes with many challenges, anxiety, school and exam stress, friendship issues, along with the constant presence of social media and the digital world. I support teens by providing a space where they feel seen, heard, understood and supported as they work through difficult emotions and real-life struggles.

For parents, I provide support and insight to help you feel confident in supporting your teen without feeling isolated or out of your depth. Together we foster a space where understanding and connection are possible. You don’t have to do this alone, support is here for both of you.
